Honeybun Shakedown
Yesterday morning, my seven-year-old was in a full-out panic about getting to school early. She really, really REALLY wanted to be there before the bell rang.
Now, this is the kid who weeps and gnashes her teeth at me when I'm trying to haul her out of bed with 30 minutes to Go-Time, so this newfound desire to be punctual was odd.
The kids have been having standardized testing - but no, that's not it. The 1st graders aren't involved.
Turns out? The kid has been running a racket.
After I calmed her down a bit, she let me in on a secret:
"I'll miss them! They will be all gone!"
What? Who? The heck? I cocked my eyebrow at her and waited for her to elaborate.
"The HONEYBUNS."
Okay, wait. What? This is not something I expected to hear.
Turns out the kid has been eating breakfast at home, and then strolling into the cafeteria just before the bell rings and grabbing herself some sort of plastic wrapped breakfast roll and I quote "fresh from the microwave."
Man, that is just so many levels of wrong. She's apparently not paying for them either, she just walks in, grabs one and walks out. Mommy's little sugared-up kleptomaniac.
So I explained to her that I don't want her eating sweets before trying to learn, and pointed out that she's already eaten breakfast, and doesn't need more. But, seriously, what is up with that?
Also - baseball is in full swing:

oh no! Poor kid.
I smell a revolution - honey buns really don't need to be in the kids' cafeteria either. It's so crazy...

Can't blame a girl for liking the honeybuns. I didn't find out about their ooey, gooey sugary goodness until high school. Had to laugh at this story though - we were always bummed if they sold out before we got to the cafeteria.

I took my daughter away from school breakfast to see if I restricted her diet if she would have better behaviour. One day she went to breakfast and I went with her. The option was milk, chocolate milk, and a Hostess Apple Pie. I was shocked and just reminded me why I took her out of breakfast.
