All will be well when the day is done

Standing at my kitchen sink just now, I saw shades of pink painting the western horizon. The light of day is faded now, and my yard is bathed in a deep blue.

My 6 year old has already gone to sleep, exhausted after her second day of 1st grade. I just pushed the sweep of hair out of her eyes, and gently removed the thumb from her mouth. She made a few sucking motions with her still pursed lips, and then relaxed completely into a deep sleep.

My almost 9 year old son is snuggled up on the couch with my husband, watching some sort of dinosaur science special before we tuck him in. His dreams will probably dance with prehistoric wonders.

My oldest, at 10, is reading in bed, long legs sprawled under the comforter. No homework yet for her, so she's basking in the free time. I'm basking in the lack of nagging that needs to be done.

I need to pack lunches for tomorrow, and make sure that all the rest of the forms due to the school are filled out. Then, I'm going to stand in a hot shower with my eyes closed, and let the last of my tension pour down the drain.

Finally, I'm going to count my blessings, and lay my head. It has been a good day.

Hi... I found your blog on the BloggersChoiceAwards website and think the Three Kid Circus blog is great! I voted for you, I write for the Our Everyday Earth - Green Blog and wondered if you would vote for us in the best Education blog category;

Thanks in advance :)

I'm humming a little camp song from long ago, "day is done, gone the sun, from the hills from the stream... day is done, gone the sun, la da daaaa.." {something like that, anyway} What a peaceful and beautiful account of your day: blessings and ALL! I LOVE your show, baby!

Back to school, huh? We start here at the end of next week, my son going into first grade. Part of me has been dreading it because it means summer is toodle-oo but part of me craves the time I will recoup to myself. It's the lunch making that makes me nuts though. My son has a very short list of edible foods but it still makes me crazy to make the same thing every day.

Who knew being a mom was such hard work? My oldest is only in mother's day out and it's already exhausting.

Still, if you can say it was a good day, that's a good thing!
