That Funky Monkey
So, the gals over at the brand spanking new Review My Blog asked if I would allow them to review Three Kid Circus a few days ago. I took a look at their site, and from the graphics and nicknames chosen, assumed it would be a snarky but funny review, and told them to have at it.
I agreed with a lot of my reviewer's thoughts on ways I could declutter and improve Three Kid Circus. Not likely I'll get to it anytime soon, but I'm due for a redesign and decluttering - so let's hear it, people:
What do you want me to change? What bugs the *@&%$#!@!! out of you everytime it pops up on your screen. We've done the Carmen Miranda thing, and the monkey thing - what image screams Three Kid Circus?
Help me out here - check out istockphoto.com and send me links. Help me brainstorm. Maybe this time I'll actually finish the whole site instead of just a couple of templates. *snort*
Thanks to the ladies over at Review My Blog. If you're wanting a critique of your blog - and have a thick skin - go volunteer for a flogging. I'm curious to see how their style develops. I personally prefer humor with a side of snark. Time will tell - and besides, there is no harm in reviewing the Reviewers, right?
Comments
No suggestions from here. I like reading your blog just the way it is.
But I'll be looking forward to see any changes made.
Have a great weekend.

You're so brave!!! You're writing is what's most important and they picked right up on that!!
I spend too much time worrying what I look like before I leave the house, I have to worry what my blog looks like too?!

I love doing searches like that so if you think of a certain image, I'll keep looking.

Okay, you just knocked Mir off my goddess pedestal. (Sorry, Mir, but DAMN, did you read that review?) I especially loved your response to her review and the fact that you owned what you felt was valid and gave a logical (and deliciously sharp) response to the stuff you didn't agree with. I would have said, "Yes, Mistress Diva, may I please have another?" and slunk off to lick my wounds and a dozen DoveBars.
I agree with her comment about the subtitle, but I like the monkeys and the three columns don't bother me. And your writing is great.
I bow to you, Goddess Jenny.

Yes - these women scare the shite out of me! So please tell me why I just submitted my site to be reviewed??!!
Seriously, we could all stand to do a little decluttering on our blogs, but I read your site for the content. You have so many readers that can relate to you and your stories. And you're just hilarious!

Personally, I like the monkeys- as soon as I saw it I thought "yea, she has monkeys for kids, too and will have some great stories!" I love your writing style and the three columns don't bother me - if I'm not interested I just don't read them. Did you change the subtitle? It used to be easier to read and is damn funny so that's the only thing I'd change.
Keep up the good writing!

Wow, that was a harshly worded review. But she was maybe on the right track about the clutter, and the hard to read subtitle. She was also right that your writing is very good, and very entertaining at times, and keeps me coming back for more.
So I see you've been cleaning up, and now the monkeys are gone, most of the links are tidied away into a single menu at the top, and it's all white and plain. The ads are gone? Or almost gone. It's a big change.
Maybe you're not done yet? Some of the links might be hard to find or hard to understand for an unsophisticated reader like myself.
I'll keep subscribing, whatever you come up with. Have fun tinkering!
