Susie Snowflake

It's been positively polar around here lately. Temperatures in the low 20s overnight... I know, you people who live in 'real' winter climates can stop rolling your eyes. It's cold to me, and I'm the one complaining blogging about it.

First of all, I have achieved new levels of glamour, as I wore my opera length formal gloves while taking my daughter to school this morning. Sure, I had my coat over the whole shebang, but I knew they were on, and am sure people could tell I was extra classy this morning. *snort* (Yeah, couldn't find my regular gloves.)

Second, I have located my Holiday Spirit. In fact, I have two ginormous trunk sized Sterilite containers full of Holiday Spirit, plus several other smaller boxes. I looked upon said Holiday Spirit with awe and longing, but it mocks me from the shelves because:

*duh duh duuuuun*

Today is the day I take delivery of all my flooring supplies. Oh, happy day. Except, wait. I have to live with these supplies in my house until the 13th. Which is when I have to remove all items from all rooms except my kitchen, cram all removed items into kitchen and garage and adjourn to a lovely hotel suite room with my family for four glorious days of our regular life, transplanted.

At first, I was all, okay, sure deliver it, yeah! New floors. Then I got the manifest of what's coming. Dude. Where am I supposed to put 38 boxes that measure one foot by one foot by 16 feet IN MY HOUSE? THIRTY-EIGHT?

That's a freaking wall of boxes. I can make a fortress! Man the ramparts, kids! I'm not sure I even have walls in my house that are 16' long. Maybe one or two, but dude, we LIVE HERE.

*edited to add* Okay, just found out boxes are 4'x2'x6" which is more managable. But still. Great Wall Of Circus will be wonderous and like the Berlin Wall, will probably be covered in graffiti by the time they get around to installing it.

But it's all good. The Holiday Spirit will look fantastic on my new floors, yo.

Oooooooh, new floors!

I have gorgeous hardwood floors. I mean, they were gorgeous 30 years ago. They are in need of refinishing. Badly. But--you say--we live here. So... too bad.

wooohooo! yay! I can't wait to come and sock skate on your new floors! You can attach a maxi pad to them if you want me to multi-task...

Give the kids hoverboards after you move back in so they don't scratch the surface.

Happy flooring...and enjoy the hotel!

"Coldness" needs to be defined by geographic location. In California, if the mercury is under 50, it deserves to be snowing.

UGH! I just got done doing all that crap! I'm so happy to be done with it! And I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new laminate floors...if you have cats, that's SUPER fun! Or kids whom you've yelled at over and over to "DON'T RUN!"...that's super fun too, because then when the kids are running in socks (after you've told them for 7 years not to run in the house) they forget about the floors and they start sliping and sliding all over the place, fall on their butts look at you like they're just in purse shock that they'd actually FALL and that's when you can say (in your most smug mom-voice) "That's why I kept saying DON'T RUN!! Now, STOP RUNNING!!!" And then....THEY DO!!! And the cats, well it's just funny if you have declawed cats and they jump off the furniture and forget about the slippery floors and start sliding all over the place with looks of "OMG I'M GOING TO DIE RIGHT NOW!!!" on their cute little furry faces....oh yeah, hardwoods are mucho fun-o! ;-) Not to mention EASY to clean...get a Europro Shark upright sweeper, you'll thank me :-) And enjoy the chaos or it'll drive you insane (like it did me, ugh!)

Could you locate my holiday spirit for me? I haven't put up any Christmas stuff yet. Maybe if I got some opera gloves it would be more fun.

Just decorate the boxes with ornaments and they'll blend right in.

The mere image of you donning opera gloves has boosted my holiday spirit!

Ooooh, Jenny, I love new floors! But that's 10 days until they're installed? No fun.
Take some "before" and "after" photos and post them for us; it's our own personal remodeling show--at your expense.
Just bought and put up our tree today.

Jenny, I'd kill for a pair of opera length gloves, only I'd probably die wearing them as it's sooo hot here right now.

The entire Three Kids Circus in a hotel room.

Should I call the National Guard now?

Or the Alpine Division since it is SOOOOOOO cold?

Woohoo! You are gonna love your new floors....it's going to feel like you have moved into a new place. I can't wait to see! Please tell me the hotel has a mini fridge and a pool. I do not want to imagine you and your gang holed up in a room for four days. Hey, why don't you just crash at your in-laws place instead? Now *that* would be blogalicious. : )

Hello Jenny, here in the southern part of our Great Golden State, we're dipping to the unusual 30's and 20's too. This isn't the California that I know. Good luck with your boxes, we have them here too, standard Staples storage boxes piled up against the wall, blocking some window panels. If it helps, they make a terrific burglar deterrent, if you stack em up like that. Heheh.

I just wanted to thank you for making me laugh!

I must remember to tell my girlfriends about your gloves...lol. They are going to love it!

Good luck with your new floor.

We have "fake wood" laminate floors, and they are the best. I am still waiting (5 months) for baseboards to be installed, though. As for the weather...I live in the YUKON. Look it up on the map. Today the windchill took it down to around -29 Celsius. That's pretty normal for this time of year. I have NO sympathy for you!!!!!!! (You can tell me to shut up next summer when I whine about it being all of +25 Celsius out)
