The Hair Apparent

In the dawn of time, like July of this year...

I had long hair. It was past my waist, and I was tired of it. I donated it to Locks of Love, and ended up with a kicky shoulder-length style that had me tossing my head and snapping my gum. It was really cute. I was really cute. Cuteness aplenty.

In an ongoing effort to stay in the cute category, I usually color my hair "Iced Mocha." It's close to my natural shade, minus the 90,000 grey hairs that I have sprouted in response to parenting monkey children who eat danger flakes for breakfast.

I also attempted to grow my thick hank of bangs out, so I would stop looking like this and could then re-do wispy bangs. I lived with Tintin head for as long as I could, but a week or so ago, I attempted to cut wispy bangs after dividing the partially grown out chunk of hair. I miscalculated the sproing in my cowlicks, and now I have wispy horns at each temple, and uneven wisp straggling along the rest of my forehead. Adding to this delightful look is the other half of my bangs, secured with an elastic. I have the same hairstyle as my 22 month old.

Probably because of the distraction caused by my darling wispy fringe (hah!) I neglected to color my hair on schedule. Yesterday, I decided the old grey mare was, well, looking a little grey, and headed to Target to arm myself with my weapon of choice.

I stood there in the aisle, reaching for the box of Iced Mocha, when it caught my eye. Yes! I needed it! I mean, the leaves are changing to red, right? It's seasonally appropriate, and since I'm mostly Irish, I can do red. I can. Stop laughing.

And so it was that I sauntered out of Target with a box of Deep Copper. I pranced into the bathroom last night, and thirty minutes later, emerged from my foxhole with deliciously auburn locks. Fiery, vibrant... aw, who am I trying to kid? I dyed my hair Ronald McDonald Red, people. I love being the center of attention, but COME ON!
I have happily discovered that my daughter's mini-tiara-on-a-hair- comb thing is a subtle way to secure my chunk of growing out bangs and downplay the hotness that is my new hair color.

Thank goodness Halloween is right around the corner.

Well, I think you look stunning. As per usual.

I have to agree with Carmen, you STILL look faboo! The tiara is a nice touch.

I think it looks great! Any excuse to wear a tiara is valid in my opinion!

Don't you just hate the growing out bangs thing? I can see no way to make it fun, but I've never tried the tiny tiera!! I may need to get one of those!

Been there, done that! Red was fun but waaaay to high maintenance for me! You can do whatever you want whilst wearing a tiara!!!

So you're now a green-eyed redhead? Ooooo, I am so envious. Jenny, all I have to say is watch out for the Tiara Headache, it's nasty.

OMG I am dying laughing at the tiara photo.

I grew my bangs out last year after having them my entire life, but darn it all I never once thought to put on a crown.

I too had waist length hair last year. But I did nothing noble with my locks. I became completely annoyed with my children climbing on my hair while I was sitting down on the couch, so I went into the bathroom and chopped it off to my shoulders myself. My husband was a bit scared when he called home *that* day. ;-)

Oh goodness! No one I know has ever had good luck with any shade of red store bought hair dye. But the tiara is adorable. :)

i agree, you have every right to wear the tiara. if anyone asks, you can always tell them you're the circus queen.:)

I think it looks pretty. Oh, my gosh, I have had some horrible haircuts in my time.(and I try to cut my bangs too and have cowlicks) One time I looked like a Roman emperor. (unfortunately, we were leaving for Hawaii the next day so I had to go there looking like that-UGH!)

Well it's hard to tell from that slice-photo of just the top of your head, but I think you look fabulous. Then again, I'm somewhat blinded by your tiara....

I've done that! I bleached my hair so it would grab the red. Oh boy did it. I looked like I was McDonald's sister! Lucky for me it wore of fast and I dyed it back to my natural brown hair.

Well, at least you don't look like the cat from Pepe LePew, and make peoples jaws drop to the ground when they look at you because they're trying to think of words other than "WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO YOUR HAIR?!?!"

Not that I ever did that or anything.

Well I like the red. Of course I may be partial as that is how I color mine. However, this is the longest I have gone with out color and I have realized that I have silver hair just sprouting like there is no tomorrow. I think it is time I did some up-keep as well.

Thanks for visiting my blog. Glad you enjoyed the Emu egg.

I think it looks fine - but then I do mine red too. My S.O. doesn't care for it (he says it looks "eighties") but it does lose that 'wow!' factor pretty quickly.

Love the red :)... I have a shade in that family too... but I am not daring enough to do it myself!! :)

The luck of the Irish!

St Patrick's is not for a few more months though.

Hi - just found you through blogexplosion and I l-o-v-e your blog (must be something in the water in NC with all these cool blogs).

I read your 100 things and now my purpose over the next few days is to make you laugh - because I need all the love I can get.

Your hair looks fab and very Irish and I say stay with the ethnic logic.

I do the red thing occasionally, always with temporary coloring. Sometimes goes past the indicated time, thanks to chasing after a pre-schooler who's poking the toddler until she dissolves into fits of screaming ("Now look here, young man! You stop poking her this minute, or--AAAAAH! IT'S BEEN 25 MINUTES!!")

The most interesting color change I ever got, however, was in 9th grade on my graduation day. I felt my eyebrows were too dark and I opted to lighten the brown -- just a bit, mind you -- using Jolen Creme Bleach (remember that stuff?). Left it on too long and...BOING: Bright Red Eyebrows. Oh my. Thought it would be wise to then redarken them using black mascara.

I walked across the stage to receive my diploma looking like Eddie Munster.

That is so funny, I really like that tiara look, its very stylish.
