Imagine A Day

At the hint of Jordan's first interest in books, that first drooly, gnawed on board book, we have embarked on weekly treasure hunts at our library.

This week we scored IMAGINE A DAY by Sarah L. Thomson with paintings by Rob Gonsalves.

Imagine a day when your swing swings you higher than the highest treetops. Imagine a day when you can ride your bike up a path of falling leaves into the very tree they are falling from. Imagine a day when you release a handful of blue balloons into a cloudy, gray sky to create a postcard-perfect day. Imagine a day when the ordinary becomes the extraordinary....a day when anything is possible.

The real treat here is Canadian artist Rob Gonsalves's magical illustrations.

Rob Gonsalves grew up drawing images from his imagination, but the Surrealist movement, in particular the works of Remedios Bar and Rene' Magritte, also influenced his work.

My favorite passage in the book reads,

imagine a day...
...when the peace of the forest
and the strength of a mountain
become a cathedral
for your heart.

There is a companion book, IMAGINE A NIGHT that I can't wait to get my hands on.

Check it out!

Oooh, sounds great! Thanks for the tip. I usually just let S pick out books, which she does on a whim.

"Imagine A Night?" I'm not saying a word, not one word. You know, on account of my innate good breeding.
