Mother Talk Blog Tour - The Reincarnationist
When Mother Talk asked if I would like to read M.J. Rose's latest novel, The Reincarnationist, I didn't hesitate. When life is stressful, I am always looking for escapist literature to take me away from it all, and The Reincarnationist fit the bill perfectly.
This suspense-filled tale bounces between millenniums as photojournalist Josh Ryder experiences a series of flashbacks to other lives. The survivor of a terrorist attack, Josh's experiences have baffled doctors and have forced him to consider other answers for these waking nightmares.
Working with the mysterious Phoenix Institute, he learns that he may be experiencing past lives, an experience that only intensifies as he visits the site of an archeological dig in Rome, Italy.
M.J. Rose packs a wallop with this book - there are multiple entangled story-lines, seemingly disconnected characters who are brought together by chance and circumstance, and plenty of pulse-pounding excitement. While books of this nature require a certain suspension of disbelief, Rose peppers her book with quotes from famous thinkers, artists and authors that support the idea of reincarnation, and lend a believability to the proceedings.
The historical detail and vivid imagery kept me moving through the pages quickly, and I was quite impressed by all the twists and turns. Rose does great suspense, and her characters were richly drawn in a surprisingly meaty story. I am so glad to have been introduced to this fantastic author.
